Hey guys/girls,

I have the chance to purchase a red tail gian gourmai. I really want to jump on this as they arnt so common here in AUS.

But firstly I need a bit of first hand experience or reliable info.

Could some one tell me how they are to keep as juvies, any precautions I should take?

Growth rates? Diet?

ANY other important factors would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Steve.

Redtail Giant Gourami are ratherly fast growing fish. They will eat just about anything you throw in the tank, pellets, feeders, shrimp, worms, you name it?!!... They also can be quite quarrelsome... be sure to keep w/ tankmates that can fend for themselves. Other than that, Beautiful Fish!! :)

LOVED the looks of my old one, but totally HATED it's aggression towards other fish... And its unbelivable G.R.E.E.D.Y. eating habits, very voracious eater! If you don't mind any of that stuff, then GO FOR IT!! especially if they don't come around to often in your area! GL!

Thanks bro,

Looking at yours makes me want one even MORE!

What size tank are you currently keeping yours in?

Mine will have to be in a 180g for quite some time, a few years most prob. Should that be O.K?

My RTGG is aggessive only towards my tinfoils but they have such speed that they easily swim away to avoid the problem. I think they are great fish and mine also eats just about anything I put in the tank. They can obtain 24"+ so size might be an issue for you in the future. Good luck.

Steve, go for it mate! I have yet to see one in Aus.

Yeah man seriously considering it, im getting very impatient waiting for these dats to arrive :(

So I might just go ahead and get a RTGG. This seems too good to be true.

How much are you paying for it. LFS just sold a full grown one for $400.00 to local restaurant.

In Australia we dont really get a say on prices - it really is based on what rare fish is available, when they are available we jump at them

Price is unknown. I shall know by tonight.

It wont be cheap though...
