Red Tail Giant Gourami

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
what's their availability here in the US? i live in Arizona, and has never seen one for sale. I've seen a couple adult ones on display but not for sale. i checked out the link thatplace.com is that standard price for juvies?

If you can drive to LA, they have them available for about $40-60 for about a 3-4"

these were one of my favorites but for some reason it will always get anchor worms. i had 3 before and 2 had anchor worms and one jumped out of my tank.

beautiful fish once big and with nice red fin coloration. the largest i've seen was about 2 ft big from a LFS near my house. That LFS use to breed it in their back room, but never got to see how and what size tank it was in.

all 3 of mine was peaceful, never went after any of my other fishes, eat anything you throw in there including vegatibles.

Hey guys/girls,

I have the chance to purchase a red tail gian gourmai. I really want to jump on this as they arnt so common here in AUS.

But firstly I need a bit of first hand experience or reliable info.

Could some one tell me how they are to keep as juvies, any precautions I should take?

Growth rates? Diet?

ANY other important factors would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Steve.
I have a pair that I raised from about 8". The male is 24", female 20" They are in a large community tank and get along with other equally large fish. They eat smelt, fruit, veggies, dog food and trout pellets. I believe they are called Goramy not Gouramies. The Gouramie family is a lot smaller fish (up to 8"),

they tend to be very agressive when they are young, but most calm down when they mature(gentle giant's)

So If I had a pair in a 200 gal with other fish would they be ok together???

it could work out if there is only a few fish , and provided they can defend themselves.

I'm also wondering if an RTGG would be ok in a 180?
Maybe with a few polys?

MY Female attacks my AUL, so I think any fish that just kinda hangs on the bottom will get bullied.

I really like there personality, big water puppies.
:D

DId you get it yet?

they are the same as any other GG steve, eat anything and can get vicious towards tankmates at younger age, but normally calmed down with age, but beware the only fish they hate at any sizes is the oscar...... dont know why?
