Would it be realistic to keep a RTC in a huge pond on our ranch? It used to be a frac pond but not anymore. I have personally stocked it with native fish. They've been in there for years. At the deepest part it's 30'. I was just thinking would it get too cold for it? I know this pond is DEFINITELY big enough. I would put 2 or 3 of em in there. Also, the pond is completely sealed so they wouldn't be able to get out. I'm worried about the RTC's eating everything else and also it being too cold in the winter. Also I'm brand new to the forum!

What's the stock, i don't think it'll eat everything but sure will eat lol

I honestly don't know what the water temp would be but the average temperature in Grandbury during January is around 30 degrees. Also when I said I have stocked it personally that is true. Over the course of around 3 or 4 years I have gone to the river and caught a lot of fish and put them in the pond. I haven't bought any fish. Here's the fish I've put in there:
Largemouth bass
Blue catfish
Channel catfish
Carp
Flathead catfish
LOTS of sunfish and baitfish ( I understand I will probably need to put more in )
I put a few drum in but it was a while ago and I don't know if they are still alive.
This pond is really big. I could probably take pictures of it when I go back to our ranch (it's only 1 hour away from our house!) we also have a dock on it which will provide lots of shade and cover. The water is turquoise which we've always thought was weird. Probably because it used to be a frac pond. Also it sits on a big limestone deposit which may be another factor on the color.

Blue catfish, Channel catfish (and some carps) can be more than a match for an RTC, especially if its not a big one.

that 30 degree's is too cold... i would say no based off that. but in a pond the size of yours they could reach their max potential pretty easy 5-6' and 140lb

A full grown flathead will eat a full grown RTC

Okay. Maybe because the water is really deep they could stay in there? I just calculated how many gallons are in the pond. I know it's not completely correct and it's probably off by a few thousand gallons (maybe a lot more) but this is how many gallons are in the pond..
9,775,530 gallons. Around 10 million. That's a lot!!

I just looked at a different weather site called weatherspark. I hope this one's right but it says in Grandbury that the low in January was 36 degrees and the high was 58 degrees. This is apparently the average weather. Keep in mind I don't live in Grandbury I just go almost every weekend. Would I be able to train the fish to accept food from my hand? Also would accidental catches be bad? I do fish a lot!
