How big do red terrors get, and how are they as compared to green terrors? Are they more aggressive? Can they be kept with salvini, n jd's. I love their coloration, they are such nice looking cichlids. An lfs has them for 5$ at like 3". also what size tank would 1 work in?

They are much more aggressive than the GT's.. they dont call them Terrors for nothing..

Unless you have a REALLY big tank I wouldnt recommend mixing them with anything..

How big of a tank would u think, sour girl? would a 60 g. high work for 1, I mean it'd only be a 3" RT. but would it work in the long run and what fish, not just cichlids, could live with it? I am asking cuz I have an empty 60 g. no stand though, that I am dying to put some kind of cichlid in. I have a 65 high, and a 40 high with salvini, a jd, some convicts, and a small 3" butti in, I was thinking of putting the butti in it, but I just recently saw these RT's and I want one, they look very colorful, and cool looking even at the 3" mark.

The 40 will not hold all those fish for life.. You need to move the salvini and jd and butti into the 60 and even then you are a bit overstocked... you will see its so hard when they are small... but you could probably get away with one RT in the 60... I had a GT and Oscar in a 125 and the GT :owned: the O big time once he hit about 5 inches.. they are mean little guys but really beautiful.. and from what I know RT's are even more mean... but it does come down to personality of course.

My advice would be to move around the ones you have b/c they wont last long in a 40 gallon.. Good luck with whatever you choose!!! :)

EDIT: sorry I didnt realize you have all those in a 65 AND a 40 so sorry.. one RT in a 60 should be good!!!

In my 65 g. high tank I have 2 salvini, male is 5" female 3.5" a male jd at about 6" and a couple convicts. In my 40 g. high I have a small butti at about the 3" mark also a full grown yellow lab at about 4-5" and an orange zebra also at 4-5". This 60 g. I just bought. It's kinda like a taller standard 55 g. I have no stand for it yet, I was gonna put it on a 7' long dresser I own but am unsure. I was originally gonna put the butti n a couple cons in it, but I just saw these red terrors for sale and they are gorgeous looking cichlids even at such a small size. I'd really like one. I've kept cichlids for about 5 years, but have never had any green terrors or red terrors, and would like to know a little more about them, and their differences if any. thanx for the help thus far.

red terror (festae) males can get to 18" or so and females at least 12". they are fairly slow growing but will eventually need at least a 75 gallon though a male will do much better in something larger like a 120. you may be able to keep them with other smaller and faster cichlids like female convicts or something like that in say a 125 gallon tank or larger, but in anything smaller I'd keep a red terror alone or maybe with a few dithers like giant danios. :)

18" holy *****! nah.. nevermind I'm gonna pass on them on that note. I guess, I'll wait on a red terror. I dont have the space for fish that get that big. I thought they only got to like 8-10". thanx for the help anyway, though.

jesus Jason, I had no idea festaes grew that big. I have a juvenile male that I really like in a 180, but he grows so slow :)

How long would it take a male in good conditions and good diet to reach say 10/12 inches?
