Red texas cichlid

The no brainer is Cole only has a 55 gallon, so unless he plans on keeping a female/s (not likely out of this pair) then what is the point of paying $5 per piece for 20-25 fish that are more than likely all going to look like mediocre run of the mill carpintis hybrids? I personally wouldn't pay a dime for fish of that quality, nor would I attempt to keep a mature RT male in a 55 gallon. And that's coming from someone who has owned full grown RT's. My m/f pair lived in a 6ft 125, and my male utilized the entire tank. He would have been seriously cramped in a 55 gallon, as would most large male RT's.

Cut it out. Let him get a fish before you tell him his tank is no good for it. I'm glad to hear your too good for any $5 fry. Buying/owning a big money rt doesn't make you an expert. You know next to nothing About the quality/fertility of these fry. And "coming from someone who has owned full grown RTs" your quite the blow hard. I don't care if you would buy any, I don't care if anyone buys any. But $5 a piece is a great deal no matter who says what.

How is $5 a good price for a fish, if it's piss poor quality, as most of these fish will ultimately be? And how is recommending to spend $100+ on a group of these fish good advice, when this kid only has a 55 gallon for these fish and obviously won't want to part with a nice male, if he actually won the lottery and got 1 decent looking male out of this group?

That, and it sounds like the person who listed these for sale was using a photo of a fish that he doesn't even own, but is actually owned by a MFK member who posted in this discussion.

The real no brainer in this scenario is that the person who has these listed for sale sounds like a scam artist.

BTW - ....... I never said that I was an expert, about anything, but I do know a thing or two about RT's.

How can you say piss poor quality?

Well if that's the case. Two of the three pictures PWNZ posted are not his, or whoever is supposedly selling fry. The picture of the pair is my pic. This whole thread is a bunch of BS. I Don't know if PWNZ is just making this up, he's the one who posted the pictures anyway. Would love to see the ad w/ these pictures.

Are you not looking at the same pictures that I am? Very piss poor....You breed with an escondido if your looking to start a quality RT project.

Don't take it personal. The reason we are discouraging Cole from purchasing is because they are not worth the $5 a pop. These are first gen fry with crappy parents and won't look like anything he is hoping to get out of them.

It's ultimately the OP's decision on whether or not he wants to buy it or not. He did after all ask if he could put one in a 55. I would discourage him from buying any due to the really poor quality the fry are going to be. Plus, he has a channel cat..

Is this fish a second or third generation from the original texas parent? It looks as if it is going to be a very interesting looking fish when fully peeled - congratulations. I have used female flower horns, KKPs and blood parrots in the past in breeding RT here in Australia but did not get any worm pearling across the head in anything other than a second and third gen fish with pearled FH parentage. I would agree with some of the comments on this thread that there is not much point in rebreeding or purchasing the first generation fish or even second generation fish sometimes - they overwhelmingly do not amount to much and there are good higher generation buys available low price from the hobbyists culls if people want to play with breeding from these already selected fish.

The OP doesn't own that fish, nor is it one of the RT's that is up for sale. That, and as with any hybrid RT, there is never any guarantee that the fish will fully peel. In fact, many never do.

Someone locally is selling some one inchers for 5 bucks he said they should be good quality
Is it ok if I put one in a 55 alone

OH NO!!!!!!
Don't buy a single one of those very piss poor quality, extremely overpriced fry. Especially if all you have is a tiny 55 to grow it out in for now...WTF?!?

This has become ridiculous. I would like to see the add we are talking about.

PWNZ - Don't be scared! you really can't lose if you go with 1, or a few of these. Good luck if you decide to. If you do, please post update pics of progress so I can see how it turns out.
