Hi All,

I'm based in the UK.
I am gonna go and look at some Flowerhorns at an importers house this week. He has some 4 -5" Red Texas. I have space for one flowerhorn at present and am torn between getting a 3" indo king kamfa or a RT. I will have to sort that out in my own head, when I get there and see the fish.

What I would like to know is, he has had these thai RTs from the size of 2" they are now 4-5" and whilst his pictures show some red tones, they have not faded. Is there a specific size / age I should be expecting a RT to peel / fade?
Also are there RTs that never peel?

Not to offend anyone, I only really want to commit to the fish if there is a high chance it will change to red.

What are your thoughts / experiences?

Best,

G

It really varies on the size and the age to fade.

Thanks Reb,

The guys seems a very knowledgable guy with photos and vids of all the fish. so i believe he knows what he is talking about. Will a rt always peel, at some point in it's life? or do some never peel?

Best.

Yeah I quite like the faded type flowerhorns I have seen, plus I really like those intense red texas. The kamfas are cool too, i will see which of them appeal to me when I go over there. Thanks for your reply.

best,

Yea if you only want one that will definitely be red I would pass them up. Seriously people if they aren't red they shouldn't be called red Texas its just ridiculous to me.

Dude, it's just a red texas. He stated that they have red tone on these red texas as you are fully awared that there are some unfaded red texas as well. Unfaded red texas would be acceptable than Green Texas or Green Texas x Blood Parrots or whatever's red cichlids.

There are non fading red Texas and rt faders. Non faders have a red color without fading (kind of like mfker water's nice former rt) and there is a difference between the non fading true red texas and an unfaded hybrid. Some pure carpintis will have a slight red tone beneath their pearls anyways. Not all Texas hybrids fade man so why call them all red Texas? Nothing against any Texas hybrids at all and a regular color carpintis x parrot would certainly be useful in further rt breeding but its still not a red Texas...
