I was offering one a little more pink then this one but he was only asking $50 for it I guess I shouldn't have turned it down but I didn't have any room in any tanks at the time

PROVE IT. I did exaggerate with the extra 0, but still 200 for a fish that quality is a joke.

I can't recall exact prices but I know a lot of the small and medium sized SRT that Dave (Fengshui Aquatics) sells are under $500. Some of the larger ones can get up there in price though. http://www.youtube.com/user/siccmindz

He hasn't posted smaller ones for sale yet but this large one is $750

I'm not a hybrid keeper so can someone here please educate me? What are these mixed with (it's carpintis x what)?

Depends on where you are getting them from, each breeding might have a different mix of fish. Common ingredients would be Carpintis obviously and depending on the breed: Thai Silk Flowerhorn, King Kong Parrot, Red bodied Flowerhorn, Fader Flowerhorn, Blood Parrot, Midas, Red Devil.

So the goal is to make a fish that looks like a carpintis, but is red? Seems obvious enough but I never know with hybrids.

Essentially yeah. The redder/deeper orange, the more pearls and larger the nuchal hump or "kok" the better quality. Although the kok is not as sought out as it is with Flowerhorn.
