Nice blue on your JD. Mine isn't as blue as yours. I noticed the shape of his head is much different than my regular JD as well. Your's has a divot that my regular doesn't have. I'll check my blue one to see if what shape it has. I also googled JD and clicked images and the JD's I saw have the same shaped head as the one I have.

I've seen that shape before on another fish but I can't remember where I saw it. Maybe someone else knows. Still, it's a very nice looking fish. :headbang2

most jds do not have that divet mine have a slighjt one but not the extreme!

I've been trying to figure out the divet myself. I think it has to be a deformity because his eyes are a little sunken and asymetrical.

Amazing looking fish! Hope it does well for you.

I don't think it's a deform at all. I personally think they are hybrid. Oh boy, I know I'll get flamed for this.
No flame, but the hybrid theory doesn't hold up when you look at the breeding numbers. The percentages follow classic genetic predictions. This is clearly the result of a recessive gene; not hybridization.

Thanks for not flaming.:)

But I will ask this and step away, Do you know anyone who had/have a regular jack dempsey pair that produced any blue dempsey's? I can see why no one noticed them before. But at the price they are selling, I would guess that most dempsey owners would be looking for them. Yet no one has come forward that I know of.

If I get flamed now, I know I deserve it. I just want to say, hybrid or not I bought some in the past and I recently bought another one.

It's been done lol You need to get around the net more :D

Seriously though, the JD's that don't show the blue gene are called "Blue Gene" jacks, or BGJD's for short.

Breeding two BGJD's will only give you 50% blue fry, which is why most breeders opt to breed a BGJD and a 100% blue, which yields a higher percentage of blue fry.
