$50 my butt. I PM'd and asked about the Tapajos I. I was told $80 and that's as low as he'd go. Seems once he found out what he really had they were a more expensive fish... :irked:

Thats one of the most annoying things in this hobby. People sell their fish for a certain price, then they see how hott they are and bump them up. Just not right in my book...

You can almost ONLY get wild Lugubris pikes man...;). Prepare for a wait, Rapps has been kinda slow as of late for the pikes. His prices aren't much better either. Might as well just get them from Rich...;).

BTW...what do you know about pikes? :p!!! What size tank? Tankmates? You didn't really fill us in!

I don't know ish about pikes. Trying something new.
I have a 55 cycling to breed/grow them out in. They'll be the only fish in there. Once they outgrow the tank (probably fast), they'll either be upgraded to a 125 just for them or move into a 180 mixed cichlid/oddball community. (most likely the 180-it really depends on their behavior though)
Sorry about that.;)

brazilians banned export?

the reds love cover so the 125 with pvc or hollow logs are best.

55 is a bad start

It does suck to hear he upped the price but it's $20 cheaper than when he had 'em listed as Xingu.

Why would a 55 be a bad start? Are they highly territorial towards each other even under 8"?

To a certain extent yes. Lugubris pikes get along much better than Saxatilis pikes as juv, but they still have some aggression. Being in larger groups will help, but being crammed into a tank of such 'small' sizes is going to amplify their need for space. End result is possibly a lot of aggression, possibly one fish dominanting the whole tank. Its basically like this. Would you try and do the same thing with a group of Red Terrors? Most cases the answer would be no. If possible, go for 75gal and higher...even as grow out.

Rapps used to carry some Atabapos reds that were super super red. They were redder than the Tapajos I have seen even.

My male & female 'Atabapo Red' sometimes would be a brilliant scarlet red, deeper in color than our Tapajos Red, but would never consistantly keep that coloration. I would
say the Tapajo 1 are the reddest Pikes.

(Still waitin to see how red the Atabapo 'fire' will be when fully mature)

I'm pretty lucky as far as aggression issues go. I really am stuck on the idea of a 55g grow-out, so once I get my paws on some, they're going in there. If aggression does become an issue, I'll have some sort of escape route-whether it be a 125, the 180 or isolating the problem fish. At least I know what to expect. Now all I need are the pikes.:D
