That result surprises me a bit, but I guess not that much. Like I said, I had a gar living with some P's (4) for a few years and the only thing that happened was the gar killed one of them. I think the gar lost the odd scale too, but no proper bites. Then again, like I said P's are certainly capable of it, it's just in my experience they don't kill, unless they are starving, or it's very weak prey.
superkimchiman - what were the sizes of the fish? And were they in the tank from the same time?
Kevin - to be honest I wouldn't want to do that. Either party would end up mutilated and I like both fish, even P's. P's are horrendously overrated given their rep, but they are still very pretty, interesting fish, and I dig channas. Things would probably be fine at first, I'd grow quite attached to them then after outgrowing them the micro would probably slaughter the P's. Or worst case scenario the P's chomp the channa.
I haven't really seen or heard of many channa vs P stories, but I've seen it once. However the one match I did see in my old town was pretty obvious, and not really fair. A LFS owner bet money with a rockabilly that the micro he'd had for years would destroy his P. In a neutral tank, the LFS. Me and my dad went the next day. But it was a micro at least 2 foot, vs say a 9 inch P. Over in seconds. It looked a bit like the video in the video lounge "snakehead Vs red devil" except gorier, because the P was bigger than that fish. For some reason the guy who owned this P was shocked.
