im beginning to redo my 120 (48X24X24''), first i got to sell my beloved ray and possibly my 2 bichirs:(

then i want to get into cichlids potentially..;)

my plan:

lots of driftwood and lots of fake plants. similar to ones i have in my gulper catfish setup..(see my signature for info)

my filtration will stay the same: FX 5, Eheim 2028 pro 2 and 1200GPH power head.

i need help on selecting appropriate tank mates.. i have some experience with cichlids.. but not a whole lot.. it hurts to say it, but i want to be dead honest here..

anyways, my potential stock that i would like, would be:

2 Green terror (gold Saum)
1 Flagtail ( currently in my tank at the moment)
6 clown loaches

..maybe the 2 bichirs i currently have(7'' Palmas Polli and 7'' Long fin Senegalus) - i dont mind selling them..

this is the planning stage i need to know if i should add more or less.

i would also like to hear peoples adaptation to the list of fish that would go in my 120. name some fish! etc etc..

thanks

sounds like a good plan :). 4x2x2 is plenty of room for a pair of GTs. Not too sure about the clown loaches tho.

I don't know if you want to put too much dw in there. GTs get big and will need lots of swimming room......and they shouldn't need to hide with your current stocking plan.

i dont see any reason why you should get rid of your bichirs, i have 3 sens with my cichlids and they pretty much ignore them but a 120 is def too small for a ray. im not sure what a flagtail is but i think you could possibly add another medium cichlid with the GT pair (but this will really depend on the GTs personality) GT are great fish i have a little pair forming now that i can already tell are going to be stunners so i dont think you can really go wrong with a nice pair of GTs :) were there any other cichlids that you were thinking about other than the GTs though? there are so many choices i always find it hard to just stick to a few! So many cichlids so little tank space LOL and im not sure but i think clown loaches get really big so maybe only like 4?

i knew from the start that a 120 would be to small for my ray thats why im selling it. i just wanted the experience of owning one; its been wonderful. their amazing creatures and i want my ray to have the best home possible now.

I think your stocking will be OK for that setup. You have plenty of filtration.

Could add some Sajicas aswell, as they don't grow big enough to pose any threat to the GT's, but are still a decent sized fish for a 120, and with great coloration and temper.
