Redoing my 187 gallon (making a reef) Super Pic Heavy!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I am...that is why I washed all his sand that I used, the rest was put in a garbage can, and brought in to fill the bottom of a new shark tank recently at work. :D

Fishfreak, excited to hear about your leopard wrasse...those things are super cool. Never personally kept one however.

I don't have the leopard yet, however when I first started my saltwater tank I had one and the fish was bullet proof after I de-wormed it. He ended up getting killed by a lunar wrasse I added (who killed many other fish as well, until I finally traded him in. I was looking at a Macropharyngodon biparatus at the LFS today, and buy was it awesome. I think that I will have to look into this fish.

As a another note though, I added a 2.5 inch coral beauty this morning. It was total war with the bicolor. I rearranged all the caves, as well as turning the lights off, stirring up the sand to make it cloudy, and heavily feeding the tank. Now, other than a few nips here and there, they seem to get along much better! :D Pics when the tank clears up (again). I will admit that I was sorely tempted to skip the coral beauty and pick up a pair of Potter's Angelfish today at the LFS. It was $160 for the pair, but they were beautiful. Too bad I don't have the $160, or they'd be going in right now.

Sweet! You found a use for that stuff, awesome.

Tank is not 100% clear yet, but enough to get pics. Only problem is no pics of the coral beauty because as soon as you get near the tank she darts back to the caves, and the water is too cloudy to get a distance shot. However, I did get pics of most of the other inhabitants, and I did manage to build an egg crate filter guard to prevent the damsels from being sucked down the overflow.

BTW, the coral beauty and the bicolor swim together around the tank and graze together as well. They get along like they've always been together. :nilly:

Yes, plus I sold about 20# worth, and I still have 30-40 pounds worth left.

Back to the tank...how long has it been up? The cloudiness tells me there might be an ammonia issue going on right now.

Tested the water this morning and there is absolutely no ammonia. The cloudiness is only because I stirred the sand bed up. It's gone now.

Pics of the inhabitants that were not shown previously (including the new coral beauty that eats like a pig and grazes with the bicolor :D ).

I have a question for you all. Now that I have 2 dwarf angels, (one of which previously ate a flower anemone), do you think I should make this a FOWLR (I would still be adding shrimps, an emerald crab, hermits, and snails however) and add a filefish and some heniochus, or a reef and add corals, a bubbletip, and some tangs?

Definitely a FWSI (Fish with selected invertebrate) system now. I added 2 new animals today! One is a cleaner shrimp that I couldn't get any pictures of before it hid. The other is a pearlscale butterflyfish! It already eats like a pig, and is swimming all over the tank. I also managed to get a picture of the clowns together.

Man, that pearlscale is pretty.

Cleaner will come out, I am sure he is just finding a little cave or something to setup shop in.

H2o is finally looking better to me as well...
