REDTAIL CATS!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Just went down to the tackle shop to get this little guy some Grass Shrimp that I caught earlier in the year. Once they hit the bottom he came out of his cave and was on the hunt. He gobbled down about a dozen so far!!
I could sit and watch this guy for hours!! Especially when I'm in the clouds:grinno:

you aint the only one man. this is why i wann grow one out so bad. i wanna sit back, blow some clouds, and enjoy his enourmous presence. they look insane. when there hungry, there on the hunt. i say to save you some money, jus feed market shrimp or cut up cafish nuggets or fillets. it fills his tummy with less food needing to be fed. and you get more for your dollar.

You guys are making me want an RTC soooo bad right now. I had one in the past, but took it to my buddy steve when i changed from monster tank to community.

Right now, I was planning on taking my 180g to planted, but just may change my mind and raise an RTC, and buy a pond in my Gmas backyard... she'll let me.

do it cohazard. but iono how long i'd keep it in that 180. i'd prolly wanna move it b4 its to big to be moved. i dont even know how im gonna get my fish out of the tank later in life. but ill worry bout that when the time comes. jus make sure you move him to the pond while he's still small enough to fit thru the top holes of ur 180 lol

I'll have to think on it some more... it's definitely a possibility though. Luckily, my 180g is glass, so it doesn't have the smaller holes typical of a acrylic tanks, so I've got two 24.5" by 24" openings I could take it out by.

I still want to keep my pacific blue dempsey, so I'll have to either wait on the RTC till he gets bigger (only 6"), or feed the RTC less to control his growth rate. If I do get the RTC soon, I'll just have to setup a new tank to seperate the blue dempsey into.

I just really love the way a large RTC's whiskers bend back over it's head when it swims. Looks like an image from Chinese art, even though the fish is from the amazon.

The grass shrimp is all free and I have an unlimited supply!@! Perks of owning a tackle shop. Maybe I should start feeding that to all my fish.

everything from ur bait shop can be used as food for your fish lol. except for any plastic stuff haha.

and cohazard. you dont wanna keep that rtc with ur dempsy. he will eventually eat that thing dude, especially if u try to "control" his diet. itll make him more hungry and will deffinatly eat that lil dempsy when he's big enough.

I'm thinking the same thing... which is why I would not put them together, and just pull the 80g out of storage and keep the dempsey in there, if I get the RTC within a couple months.

The RTC I'd pick up is only going to be around 3" (typical size in my area), but I'm fully aware of how fast these guys grow. Within a month he'd be able to eat the jack lol, maybe even a couple weeks!

Then again, I could always setup the pond first(either going to be a cattle trough, or a custom pond so that i have more control over shape and design of the filter), but I prefer the idea of watching him grow in an aquarium, then moving him to the pond once he's large enough to keep a close eye on. Guess I could keep goldfish in the meantime, then just let him eat them when he's big enough to move over. Hmmm...... brainstorm....

Took some feeders down to the little guy today. Once he saw the Peacock eating he came right out of his fortress and gobbled 2 up! This guy is comming along nicely. I really need to get some pictures!

if i were you, i wouldn't feed live. try to keep his habbit controled to prepared foods and your more likely to have tankmates with him in the long run. if he gets used to chasing his food down he will eat his tankmates for sure.
