Finally got the Walmart Marineland sump built, started it up today and I need to slow the water pump down. the pump is sucking all the water outa the sump and trying to overflow the tank.
Is there a way to control it?

Thanks!

Can the overflow not handle it? Making the pump pump higher before going into the tank is a potential way to slow the flow, albeit an unconventional one

I agree with Joe, if you tee it off, you can then control flow with to the tank with a ball valve, having the excess go directly back to the sump.
This extra flow to the sump will add agigitaion and oxygenate the sump creating a better environment for benificial bacteria.

There is also the option of adding a venturi tube to the outflow line to the tank, ventures automatically drop pump pressure by about 20%, and at the same time add aeration to the tank.

What size tank, what size overflow, what size/model pump and what's the head height?

Thanks Monster Pals!!!

This is my first sump. i had been getting my directions on building it over the phone from my shelter operations tech, right up until he ended up in the hospital in a coma. I'm winging it now.
Check out the pics. I have no clue what the hell kinda pump it is, and whats a head height?

Hey, don't judge me. I learned all there is about pvc fittings in the last several weeks. By the time this things running I'll be able to turn a horse tough into a hot tub. :D

Can I use a dimmer switch to slow it down?
