reg flourescent shop lights ?

hmmm, ya i dont have a canopy :( but i should totally make one hahahaha..... im not even sure if i can find or buy a 36" fixture... i think two 36" dual bulb fixtures should work great on my tank, all 4 bulbs i would think 6500k would work well dont you guys ?

so i checked some places on line and seems i cant find a 36" fixture at all unles i buy small universal 36" lights for fish tanks... single tube units are 60 on sale reg is 94 bucks... and a single 72" unit is 159 on sale and 199 reg, dual bulb 36" unit for 70 on sale reg 80, and 130 on sale reg 170 for a dual bulb 48" fixture.... what the hell is wrong with them lol ... thats crazy expensive....

other thing i thought is to just leave my unit alone, and make a canopy for it, and then fasten 2 36" under the cabinet bulbs/fixtures made for kitchens ? i dunno what i wanna do lol ....likely have to make the canopy outta MDF to match the stand and leave the back of the canopy open (just frame) to allow moisture/heat to escape to stop the MDF from getting moldy and rotting and etc....

for saving money NOTHING beats a 4 ft. shop light(t8)bought new at walmart or home depot and some good bulbs(maybe 10,000 k )..from your local fish shop(or chain pet store)

im thinking of just cheap light cuz the dual bulb t5h0 (10,000k and actinic 420nm) i have now is waaaay to strong few hrs a day and have brown algea everywere... figure get something that isnt as strong and looks good and sell my t5h0 and make some cash, i think maybe a dual bulb 4ft fixture or something...

I'm using two 48" shoplights each with dual T8s from Home Depot on my tank and I'm happy with them. I can't believe how expensive some of these "aquarium lights" run. It's a total rip off. I couldn't bring myself to spend $500+ when I could get similar results for around $50.

The bulbs I'm using are Phillips T8 Alto II Daylight Deluxe 6500K:

hmmm, how big are the tanks you guys are posting ? anyone have a 6ft long tank to show there cheap lighting on it ... i have a reg single flurosecent bulb on my tank right now and it looks good but the bulb is likely a good 5 years old or so...it makes it look like a natural light almost, its a aqua-glo t8 bulb in it, so maybe i should just get a 48" fixture with dual t8 6500k bulbs ?

Mine is 10'x3'x4'- 770 gallons.

I think you will be happy with dual T8 6500ks.
