Reginald James' First Planted tank

I used to use a simple ceramic CO2 diffuser placed under the canister filter intake. The bubbles are very small and would flow into the canister filter. In the filter most of the CO2 would disolve into solution. I would have to "burp" the canister filter daily to remove excess gas bubbles.

Overall this was successful but was still inefficient and wasting CO2. I have since moved to a DIY diffuser. The diffuser is PVC piping filled with bio balls. This is then connected inline to the outlet tube coming from the canister filter. I know have almost complete utilization of the CO2 and the level in the tank is higher. (very lime green drop checker).

I would say the simple diffuser can work depending on the size of the tank and light intensity. With a large tank, high light environment the inline diffuser seems way more efficient.

Here is a photo of the inline diffuser under my tank.
