One of my LFS said they wouldn't even take a 4" fish from me before. Said it's just too difficult to sell fish any bigger than that. I think he's in it for the money and not the care of the fish. Thus why I now travel 20+ minutes to get to another LFS.

That's very odd to me...I can sell just about any cichlid as long as it's over 4", and they never just die. I have a harder time selling 1-2" juvies, as most look the same and lack color. I pretty much buy out my wholesalers any time they have fish over 6"...and I sell them within a week (as long I can retail for $30 or under). Heck I just had a 14" Oscar, two weeks and sold...and then I had people coming back and asking for it. We don't have many LFS in the area though, and I have a lot of tank space.

It's a good thing you aren't in my area. I'm really a sucker for charity cases, and I think the snow whites are beautiful. Of course I'd probably be a real dork and put a black light in one of the bulb slots over their tank to make them fluoresce.

Would he be all by himself or would you feel compelled to put other stuff with him?

by himself.

If he's by himself, a 20 long would be bare minimum I'd say. But it wouldn't be fun. I'd do a six-inch fish by itself in about 30 gallons for easier maintenance and more stable parameters.

yeah, that what i was thinking. 30 gallon tall or long?

White fish are beautiful. White lets the metallic sheen come through. To rehome fish I suggest your fill out a 3x5 card and place it on file with a photo at your local animal shelter and most shelters that have their **** together usually have a "want file" where people leave a record of what they are exactly looking forward too. I have a Irish wolfhound "want" on file with every Animal shelter in the state, and with the local Irish wolfhound rescue society. Try the major metropolitan shelters. Like here in California I would contact the Marin and San Francisco shelters. You could also place them at a pet store on consignment or place a poster at your pet store and offer 10% of the net when you sell them to the store. I would also try posting on forums like myaquariumclub.com and monstersishkeepers.com I would take a beautiful fish like that myself but I only do goldfish. I run a goldfish rescue organization goldfishrescue@yahoo.com. I think they should outlaw giving away goldfish at county fairs. The people who win them are completely unprepared, they do not have a cycled tank and frequently get wrong information on what is required to keep them. How does a person get the county to ban something?

I wish you the best of luck. If you like you can send me a picture of your fish with some info and I will post it on my facebook page. Most of my friends are animal lovers or life sciences majors. I'm really well connected.

Best of luck,

Glenn

You could always destroy them. Would be more humane sometimes. It is not the end of the world, fish get killed all the time. Use them to fertilize your flowers or garden.
