I'm setting up a 90G and I need to reinforce the joists underneath to avoid it dampening overtime.

This is the idea I had in mind:

Except I would only use two jacks instead of three. However, I have a few questions.

1) What type of jacks should I look for and where can they be found?

2) What lumber is the strongest?

3) Should I fasten the perpendicular 4x4 to the floor joists and if so how?

Any other suggestions?

Bracing the floor could still be usefull if the tank is in a room that gets a bit of traffic, a rigid base under the tank will help prevent footfall vibrations from startling and stressing the fish.

I did a quick paint of what we did when we needed to replace some of the rotten stumps from my fathers house(I labeled the beam as joist but meant bearer), the same style of thing could be used to reinforce your floor, use your existing bearers as a guide to what size you will need.

And this also gives you the ability to upgrade to a ]M[onster tank in the future:headbang2

they can usually be found at lowes or home depot, and if you wish to fasten the 4x4 to them there is usually two holes already in the support flange on each side

I know what you're saying that it's a waste on a 90G, but it's to prevent the joists from sinking overtime as they naturally would from all that weight and it's to prevent any bouncing as Volenti mentioned. Better safe than sorry.

Thanks for all the suggestions, hopefully I'll get it done tommorow.

I didnt even do that with my 240 I thought Ill do it when i go bigger

It depends on how well your house is built, generally older houses are built stronger than today.
