my parents really believe in Feng Shui so after a series of unfortunate events, including the medics coming to my house TWICE in one week last week, and the important fact that my jardini did jump out of the tank and was saved by my wife not too long ago, they asked me to release the fish. although jardini's are not asian arowana's, but they still resemble "dragon fish". Mom and Pop really did convince me well with their reasons, and i gave them my word agreeing to release the fish this saturday, which btw is a good day for Buddhism.

i plan to put my 2yo jar in a huge pond in front of my office at work. it's a private property so no fishing allowed. my colleagues and i usually feed fish there at lunch. i believe it's going to be a very good place for my jar.

man, not an easy decision to make, but don't wanna make The Elders worry more.

questions:

1. will he be OK without air pump for about 45 minutes?

2. will he be OK in the pond in winter? it can get to below zero here, and i don't really know how deep the pond is. a lake would be better in this aspect, heard of Buckeye Lake? not far from me, but fishing is allowed there. plus, i'll still feel him closer to me being in the pond at work.

3. i never pay close attention to threads about bagging your monsters because i never had an intent to do that except for tank swapping. is clear or black bag better for this use?

no more dragon fish for me for a long while. have raised this fun boy since 2.5". he was shipped from asia.

thanks for reading. enjoy your dragons!

Dead by christmas. And, a bag won't work. Think 2 nets, one from either side and, a large ice chest full of tank water.

he might make it the 45 min without an air pump, but he WILL DIE during the winter no doubt about it, there is also a chance he will introduce exotic diseases to native water sheds that native species have no immunity to. also RELEASING AQUARIUM FISH IS AGAINST FEDERAL LAW, and the feds watch this site.

It is tottally wrong to do that in Ohio. Fish will die. Period.

I don't that he can survive the winter.

it will be a miracle if it makes it all the way to christmas, i doubt it will make it 72 hours

It's good that you ask first! Awesome to see you care about your fish enough to keep him close. He would die in the winter (probably right now even!) in an Ohio pond.

See if you can convince your bosses to do a display aquarium in the lobby. I doubt they would pay to heat the pond but it's not terribly expensive or unreasonable for a workplace to maintain large display tanks in their lobbies. Assuming there are frequent customer visits, that is.

Be imaginative. Write a report on the benefits of having an aquarium in the workplace. Hobnob a little, perhaps get yourself invited to one of their stupid boss parties and play friendly for a week or two to get on their good side. Then drop the Q.

Jardini come from tropical north queensland in australia don't think they will tolerate anything below about 70f/20 oC for more than a few days. ps don't release exotic fish there are plenty of people that would love a jardini and look after it properly if you offer it free to good home.
