Go to australia and put it in a nice private pond there ;)

It is tottally wrong to do that in Ohio. Fish will die. Period.

X2

The jar will survive for a while without an air pump but will never take the cold water/weather.

DON'T DON'T DON'T DON'T

2 Reasons :

Fish is dead in a matter of days, maybe hours.

Illegal outright, sorry this is the kind of action that brings the law down on fish keepers everywhere, we won't forgive you.

Find a home for this fish, there is surely someone locally who will take him for free if you post on here or craigs list you can save this fish his life and you a big fat fine.

This act would bring you no good karma. That fish cannot survive in Ohio without being in an aquarium. This is the opposite of what your family is hoping to achieve.

I can pick the fish up and house it properly. Please let me. Don't send it off to its death.

You would think with over 300 posts and just plain common sense would say no. Guess it didn't work.

perhaps you new mission is to find a reputable fishkeeper with a private outdoor pond that is in a warm climate. Either secondhand or thirdhand, You are doing the right thing by asking first and I hope that these answers are not disappointing you. You have come to the right place for people to help you out with your situation. Keep in good spirits and keep that tank lid tight on the tank for now!

good luck
