Um sort of like local state run animal shelters? The government has a habit of supporting the indigent brood mares and the criminally stupid. Why not the abandoned pets including fish.

there aren't enough fish that are abandoned to warrant the need to build a similar pond for fish that would be the equivalent of an animal shelter.

lol tired...

As said before, it would allow people to be irresponsible. People are already irresponsible. If it's "allowed"... that wouldn't be good.

I like the concept of it but all in all I don't think it would work out. Fish species tend to find a way to spread and I believe that this would just open up more opportunity for certain invasive species to make their way into our waterways. Also, as mentioned before, some people may use an outlet like this as a solution for their irresponsible fish keeping. Unfortunately, good intentions aside, I think a release pond would do more harm then good.

Anyone can take a dog, or various other animals to shelters no questions asked. Now how often do people take advantage of that when they simply don't want their pet anymore? Not as often as we would all like. So no people are ignorant and even given the chance to still wouldn't do it.

And then add in all the other reasons stated above it just wouldnt fly. Plus we arnt the ones who could make that decision and you know the people that are in that position would just giggle and throw it in the trash...

i think itd be a fairly good idea until the rains come and the fish r flooded into rivers or when people drop in snakeheads and walking catfish and the occasional bichir that get up and leave teh water.

At first I didn't like the idea but if you had a company running it and would ask for a small charge to enter and use the pond it would work. The pond would have to be inside in order from keeping and birds or other animals out. Also all fish coming in would have to be checked for sickness. There would also have to be seperate ponds for seperate fish that need differnt ph and temp. Good idea though.
And then they discover that they could recoup some of that money by selling the fish to people that want them, and then they become a store/fish farm...
