releasing cichlids in our areas

So I heard in FL and maybe other places you can go fishing and catch cichlids. Doviis, devil, midas, ect.. I asked where and was told that some released, some got out from farms, ect..

Well. I wanna be able to go fish for cichlids too. where in cali is a good spot to release cichlids that are safe for them? How come we dont do that here on the west?

Im looking forward to go and drop some in the park that i take my dogs too. Im planning to go buy some Pure breed Cyannos and maybe drop 6 in there. Anybody wanna pitch in? I will be dropping my Escondido and Reddedil in there too.


Is it safe for them at lakes in cali? I heard you get fined for something like this? FL does it. So what is the right way for us and safe way for the fishes? Thanks guys.

If I seem to lack knowledge about this, which I do. pls dont get mad at me but educate me.
 
umm yeah i think its illegal lol idk if they would survive, water temps here in cali can drop well below 70 in large outdoor ponds. florida is much warmer being by the golf of mexico and all, if you had a privet pond you should be able to do this but you would need the $$$ to build one.
if you do ill go fishing with you anytime just let me know lol

What if they did? Would you like to see Yellow Lab cichlids swimming around in a CA lake?
 
i would like to. Because the east coast always talking about fishin them wild. They talking about fishing snakeheads and doviis and red deveils and more! Just mainly concerned about them surviving if I do release them. I got a few fishes ready to go anytime now as long as it's ok to do so.

it's illegal but how bad is it when the the lake is closed up and not connected with any other water ways? Main concern is for the fishes. If they cant survive, we cant do it.

So FL water is different huh? I've been to FL. hot and humid and I hate it.

So NO. THEY cant survive. CANT do it :(

It is NOT ok.

It is AGAINST THE LAW to release NON NATIVE species into lakes/rivers/streams...

It is NOT legal in Florida but so many people do it when a fish gets to big that they have developed populations over the years. This same thing happens all over the US, even in California too I am sure the only exception is that these fish cannot survive the cold waters of winter. Where as Florida doesn't have much of a winter and the water remains close enough to the fishes natural habitat they are able to survive and thrive.

Just because you see someone do something illegal does not make it legal. Keep your fish in tanks where they belong...

This is the exact reason we have problems like Snakeheads... It is also why they tried to pass the bill to ban importation of non native species because of irresponsible pet owners who release them.

If you choose to do illegal activities then it is your business but I personally would not broadcast it on a forum, as there can be some hefty fines involved if you're caught.
 
well like i said if you set up your own private pond on your property then you can put whatever you want in it but filtration and heating will cost you a load... specially in the winter not to mention you need the space on your property
 
:wall::angryfire:nono:Have you no sense?! This is not only illegal, but dangerous for the enviroment, many cichlids are voracious eaters and could take a toll on the enviroment!! Here in florida, the cichlids mainly stay in canals too hot for native fish, nontheless it is still very wrong to release cichlids into the wild.. it's because of people like you that HR669 is being considered..!
 
Oh my GOD. What is wrong with you? You would intentionally endanger an entire food web and possibly wipe out one or more species in your area for your own selfish greedy desires?
