hey, those pay cuts send funds to some very important politician's pockets. you wouldn't want them to only be single millionaires, would you?

I was going to comment on that comment but held back.

He just doesnt know how much sweat and blood we put into this field.

No he doesnt. Im 3 years in my career and already suffer from permenate damage.

The over paid pic, was because my county is attempting what amounts to over a 20% pay cut atm.

We have a ton of volunteer firefighters in Oklahoma, including a couple of my cousins up in MO, another cousin is a volunteer emt. My body is too messed up already to do the work anymore, I stick to high water recovery up on flooded roads, first responder work, and search and rescue stuff. I grew up in the north and prefer snow and ice recovery/rescue work than the heat down here. A lot of small towns have no paid fire department, they have no paid emt's, they have no paid police and half the town is one or the other when not working their paid job. Blessings to all of us who work in the field, paid or not.

I've been down to Norman a few times this week to do some work for friends after the tornado but thankfully it wasn't too bad. Woodward was hit hard though, quite a bad one hit at night. It's going to be a rowdy tornado season this year.

Pfff, overpaid firefighters....just like those fat cat teachers with their mansions and swimming pools.

That sucks man, some people just don't get it.

I've never heard anyone suggest teachers were overpaid either. I've always heard they were underpaid. I'm confused as to if the comments about being overpaid are being brought up just to give an excuse to say what people do is worth what they get paid.

It is kind of funny as far as the firefighter thing goes. Well first I have to say I don't know how much a paid firefighter gets on average. I also have to say that I know a paid firefighter in the city has a lot more to do than a rural volunteer. Anyways it's just kind of funny people trying to say they aren't overpaid for something some people are willing to do for free. Lol

I know it's different, because our rural department doesn't even get called out once a month. I've actually only known of 3 fires, since I've been alive in my small town area. That'd only be one call out every 10 years. We have a separate emt service that responds to car wrecks that is a full time job though.

Interesting point about the whole overpaid vs the volunteer comparison but as stated, in the metro and urban areas there really is no comparison...I would argue that firefighting is one of three three most dangerous jobs in this city (I work in one of the other two)and we recently lost a few firemen in a recent fire.

There aren't many jobs that deserve to be paid good ,but firefighting is certainly one of them! What these guys go through to help other people often is immense, firefighters have my respect for sure ;)
Stay safe guys.
