Removing algae??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
^ I recognize those lights, they are very similar to what i have, so that means you are likely running 4 T5 bulbs, just not sure if they are T5-HO or not?

But the fact you are saying its brown leads me to believe it could possibly a detritus build up?

T5-HO 54watts it says on them.. What does that mean lol?? It looks brownish when I scrap it off glass but just looking at tank it's pretty clear/white looking..
I do all my water changes through a gravel cleaning siphon atleast once a week and it all looks pretty clean most of the time apart from the algae growing

It basically means you have strong lights depending on the height of the tank ;)

dont spose its a reletivley new tank or has had any new substrate added recently? my brown algae was from silicates from a new bag of gravel (silicates are naturally occuring in sand, gravel and even aquarium glass) light has nothing to do with brown algae. This should help, http://www.aquarium-pond-answers.com/2008/04/aquarium-algae.html. it should just dissapeer on its own accord just gotta scrape the algae off in the mean time!

Hope this helps!

The nitrate test kit is the 1 I broke. I will get a new 1 on the weekend hopefully.
I have a UV sterilizer already and I did notice nicer clearer water but no change to algae on glass.
I can try cutting down lighting time but they are only on for 4-5 hrs at night. Is that alot??
Have 4 plants with baskets on bottom tied together in tank now and will add 1 or 2 in sump on weekend :)
Has anything worked for you rob??
Thanks heaps for the replies guys its much appreciated.
