Removing algae??

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
If nothing else works, as i originally suggested, you could try adding a phosphate remover pad in your filter, i used it on my 200G when i had an algae problem and it definitely helped a lot...

The nitrate test kit is the 1 I broke. I will get a new 1 on the weekend hopefully.
I have a UV sterilizer already and I did notice nicer clearer water but no change to algae on glass.
I can try cutting down lighting time but they are only on for 4-5 hrs at night. Is that alot??
Have 4 plants with baskets on bottom tied together in tank now and will add 1 or 2 in sump on weekend :)
Has anything worked for you rob??
Thanks heaps for the replies guys its much appreciated.

nope not a darn thing has worked for me !! more irratating then anything, if you get a po4 remover pad lemme know if it works... i thought about using a maxijet 1200 (of coarse throttle down by the ball valve they provide) with a phosban reactor filled with po4 remover but hear in order for it to work 100% you need the water to pass through the media or pads at a slow rate of like 20-30gph otherwise it isnt working 100% like it should...how long did the pads last ? i coould get a pair of them as put one in each fx5 i have if they actually work

If your water is clear and your nitrates are low, and it's brown, and your lights aren't on too much, and the tanks not in direct sunlight, it's prob detritus buildup, does it occur most in the same direction your filter outlet is pointed? I had this problem in my RTC tank. He had very strong fish poop.
