Removing Lice

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Have to say salt DOES do it because i used it myself to treat the same thing. Copper will kill them but it will kill the rays also. So salt is the best to use. It dryes them out.

Argulus can withstand up to 3.5% salinity, about the same as the average ocean, good luck with your rays in that. Salt in normal doses is useful to prevent secondary infections from the wounds left by Argulus.

Please, do a just little research before answering so definitively ( and being wrong).Google is a wonderful tool

Sorry their buddy but i got my info from biologist at The newport Aquarium. You cant get any better than that. I think thats better the Goggle. What do you guys think?

Just do a google search on argulus or fish lice. Mature they are just a tad bigger than a pin head.

You are still wrong Florence. Ask your biologist again, Either he/she or you have misunderstood something , I suspect it is you. Google ( if you can spell it)
Argulus and salt. Explanations range from the very simple to peer reviewed articles.

We use a product over here called Parazin P manufactured by waterlife research, this treatment inhibits the growth and breaks down the outer skeleton of these crustacean type parasites,i believe theres a product called Dimilin which also works well.
These are very stubborn parasites to destroy, the level of salt needed to kill these nasties would have to be so concentrated that it would kill any freshwater species of fish, therefore salt could never be described as a remedy to eradicate these lice.

Yes i can spell. Nothing was misunderstood everything worked out fine and the lice was gone. So i dont know what in the hell your talking about. These people were MARINE biologist . It worked for me so what ever you do is up to you. Good luck again.

Now that we have established that you can spell 'google',
Please show me 1 link...just one, that tells you that salt can kill Argulus in any concentration that an Amazonian ray could survive. :)
