Would love to know where you get FX5's for $200. Not that I need it right now, but I might want to replace my Rena one day.

Just to add,ive had my xp3 for about ten years so certainly got my moneys worth,i just use it to polish on my 180 for the last 3years since i got the fx5 on it and some sponge filters too,on the 135g is an fx5 too,had problems from the start with my fx5s but seem to be ok now(had them around 3 years).
I think they are all temperamental in some way but for the money id get the fx5 but if you could go for a sump id do that.

XP3.

no need to get the giant FX5 with all that on there already.

and XP3> XP4 in terms of bang for the buck.

THIS

because the rena's are better :)

LOL

in all seriousness, as mentioned earlier there is nothing wrong with overfiltering.

but in this case, adding an FX5 that uses almost 4 times the power consumption as the other filters listed is a bit overkill IMO.

you are spending a lot more in hydro than you need to in this case when a smaller filter is fine.

if you are planning on upgrading to a monster tank, by all means then get the FX5.

but if not, I think its a bit much with the other filtration already on there.

good luck with whichever you choose.

i have a fx5 and the xp4 on my 180G. both filter the water in a different approach, but all in all to do the same thing...make sure the water is clean.

all depends on your future plans, if indeed you want to upgrade to a bigger tank; but i would go with the xp4, instead of the xp3. i would want to use the fx5 if it was the only canister needed.
the fx5, soo simple to install, maintain and startup.
any canister you choose, also depends on the placement of out/intakes, what media you are planning to use and other variables, that make a canister fulfill its duty.

FX5. Rena is junk (i own 2 xp3s btw) and why wouldn't you want to overfilter?

Because it's a waste of money

Its not a waste of $.

Its insurance. :)
