NLS good food, but the discussion is not about NLS, or comparing to NLS. Doing this is going to start a huge mess, just like all of the other food questions turn into, when you guys start preaching the Godness of NLS. Lets not derail this thread and lets keep NLS out of it. My personal opinion, lets keep this about the food at hand.

I don't think he's comparing, I think he's asking if we'd use a gelling agent to bind it to feed fry to possibly have it last longer in the water?

I simply said "Would you consider buying a higher protein/fat formula of pellet food designed for "growth" like NLS Growth?" I used that as an example, hence the word "like." Insert your favorite brand of pellet food after the word like and answer the same question. I used NLS as an example because I know how much it costs from experience.

Also, I won't insert the brand name since it seems to rub some people the wrong way, but there is a very good wafer on the market that I've personally seen last in tank water a couple days without softening up to the point that it dissolves away... Would you consider trying that as well? I just don't see the reason for you guys getting excited and wanting to try this rather expensive product while at the same time ignoring others?
I definitely see it having applications and I appreciate the owner coming on here and discussing it, but this is the CA/SA cichlid section so my questions are specifically geared towards keepers of those fish (as I am myself).

My thoughts on the use were two fold as it concerns CA/SA cichlids. I'm currently working with a group of Heckel and though this might be a perfect method of dilevery since they like to graze all day. The other, which I beleve was mentioned already as a way of getting meds into the fish. However the idea of trying with the Discus is what really interested me.

So what do you think about simply adding a high quality gelling agent to a ground up premium pellet?

Honestly I never really thought about it. I read the press release and to be honest it looks pretty good. I'm a die hard NLS user and currently have all my fish Heckels included on NLS. However I'm open minded as far as seeing whats new on the market. This stuff looks interesting for my application and would not be opposed to trying a sample.

No he wasnt.

And I understand what your getting at, and I just wanted to nip the NLS users from turning this into another one of those threads. And you dont need to start something, when all I was trying to do is keep it about the food at hand. And like I have said in the past, I use NLS and quite a bit of it, so dont go there, and lets keep this clean. That is all I was asking. As for you comment about value, it is a big deal when it comes to that. That was the first thing out of my mouth when I talked to Ted. Why should I pay more? So I guess we will see what it is all about very soon. :D

The cost is being misled here it goes farther than I thought and the cost isn't that bad here's info from another thread on what it makes

2 oz packet $8 = $4/oz = $2/half pound gel
4 oz packet $12 = $3/oz = $1.5/half pound ge
l 8 oz packet $20 = $2.5/oz = $1.25/half pound gel
16 oz packet $32 = $2/oz = $1/half pound gel
64 oz packet = $70 = $1.09/oz = $.545/half pound gel
