reptile bulbs

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
infra red bulbs never bothered my animals. my ig, turtles, and my monitors all had infrared bulbs. it was by their everyday basking spot so they could go to it to warm up at night if they wanted too. i had hides for them to get away from the heat if they wanted to also. it is my understanding that the blue and infra red lights arent seen by reptiles so the light that we see the bulbs giving off wouldnt bother them anyways. if your animals were restless at night, then something else was wrong. go through the monitor forum on kingsnake. read some of frs post. i think in the last month this question was asked. hes been breeding and raising monitors for yrs.....hes had some monitors that had lights on 24/7 for yrs at a time and it never affected their growth or overall health. and those were daytime lights!!!!

Alright guys,my fail for not being clear. The 25 watt blue night light and the other 2 red night lights also low watt were only purchased so I could turn them on for about 1 hour at night so I could watch my frog and crested which are both nocturnal move around a bit.No heat issues, just low watt bulbs for an hour of night viewing.Guess I didnt make that clear.

i used to have a green iguana and we would run a 100w day lamp and a 75w blueish black night lamp.Never burnt out and i still have it,works just fine.

I read somewhere that lizards do not see in the infrared spectrum. Don't know how true that is, but it would seem that the light emitted from a true infrared bulb is not visible to a lizard and thus, the ideal bulb for nocturnal viewing. However, there are some just "plain" red and blue colored bulbs out there, and these do emit a light that is visible to lizards.
