I read somewhere that lizards do not see in the infrared spectrum. Don't know how true that is, but it would seem that the light emitted from a true infrared bulb is not visible to a lizard and thus, the ideal bulb for nocturnal viewing. However, there are some just "plain" red and blue colored bulbs out there, and these do emit a light that is visible to lizards.

youre correct, the red bulbs are great for seeing behaviors in your nocturnal species, I have a low wattage red bulb on all the nocturnal geckos my wife has and they are out and about with no worries at night.

Yep, I've always had red bulbs on my leopard gecko tanks for additional heat (the cages are in my basement which stays in the low 60's all year) and I've never noticed any stress issues with using them.

Now That I can really acept:D Wich makes this single question in my mind: are the lamps that apear here true infrared bulbs:confused: However ceramic lamps are at least for now my choice for my igs during the nigth. Of corse all that Ive been saying only is true for day active species:D I also use one of these on my malasyan boxies during the winter and these are great because they can take water drops and dont go bad;)

the regular red ones I bought burned out in 2 days if that.Click on,then off,on and dead, lol. And now a blue.Guess Ill try another red from a dif store.I was under the impression that the blue was visible to them.I think you guys are right on the red.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,Oh and coura,if you try real hard you can see some light coming off those ceramic ones.:uhoh:,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

could there be something possibly wrong with the dome light/light fixture you are using that is causing the bulbs to blow so quickly? if 3 bulbs have done it, then im thinking its not the bulbs

thats what I thought but I tried 2 dif fixtures and they run regular bulbs fine.Good try though dude.:)
