I had been tested after having multiple fevers, headaches, and muscle pain, on a Monday then it occured again on the following Wednesday, which does show that what Retuks asked, that one of the reptiles did infect me again and again. I had been using an Anti-Bacterial hand sanitizer, but after speaking with the doctor, I have found out that it doesn't protect from Salmonella. Just my luck.
Said it before and I will say it again, dont beleave it came from your reptiles and I even question that Salmonella is the actual culprid, the bacteria kinds that you can get from reptiles causes gastrointestinal disorders icluding diarrea and vomiting somethimes acompanied by fever and that in the more serious cases. Other species of the same genus case diferent things but thouse you simply cant get from reptiles. The simptomatology you present is very odd for a Salmonella infection and never from one contracted by reptiles. Have you been around stuff like ponds, swamps, etc in like a picnic or eaten stuff like not totaly cooked chicken or beef? Also I dont beleave that contracting 2 times thing. Even with this bacteria being present in the gutt of many reptiles, simply washing hands with normal soap makes it really hard to get contracted, let alone 2 times in 2 days, really really unlikely unless you have don a really close contact like kissing your pets or sharing food with them. Some other thing must have cause you to become hill. I keep reptiles for like 18 years and never had a prob and simply practesing normal hygene. Unless you have some kind of imune disorder it simply doesant fit. Also as I already stated you can have this bacteria normaly in your gut, in this case mamal specific Salmonella. I beleave the culprid is yet to be found. However just to be shure make a reavaluacion of what you did on thouse days and wich specific animals you did handle. Also if one of your reps has a agressive Sal it must have been afecting him as well. And yes this bacteria in himuno depressant situacions is a reptile killer. At the very least it causes dierria and can cause a deadly gastrointestinal disorder, I wonce saw a toise that later on died that had a very serious infection and that bled from her mouth, really nasty stuff

The type of Salmonella was confirmed, by a Dr. with multiple tests, that it did not come from food. There was some dierria (didn't mention it, because its just really awkward). Fever, headache, dierria, all symptoms form getting Salmonella from a reptile. Haven't been around swamps or ponds for a few months now. Haven't eaten anything that was uncooked. I have been working with reptiles for about four years, and this has never happened before, so I would love to say that it didn't come from one of my reptiles, but science beats basic knowledge guys. There were mutliple tests all showing that it had came from one of my reptiles. Thats it. Blood was drawn, and yes, even a Stool sample was taken. Its not that big of a deal. I am on medication for it, I should be done in just a few days, everything is good, I'm alive, no harm done.

Hummm and cant you remenbar anything odd regarding thouse days? Any new animal, any diferent event? It simply is very weird, as you said, that you have been having them for 4 years and nothing happening and now in the sudden this:confused: Have you met somebody new, etc? And by the way do you have the especific cientific name of the Salmonella species that afected you? that would help allot figuring it out

IF it's from one of your herps it would be the water dragon. You should get a second doc to look over the test results and compare them to a stool sample from the water dragon. I've worked with reptiles for over 20 years in pet shops, breeding facilities I have a zoo at home and I'm breeding snakes as a hobby. I have my hands in turtle and crocodilian water 10 times a day and thats on my days off. I've never gotten sick and In all those years and all those thousands of people I've meet I have never meet a signal person that has contracted anything from a reptile I've seen people with ringworm from small animals like chinchillas and Guinea pigs I've seen people with mites and lice from dogs and birds and the worst is cats so many nasty things people can contract from cats. Also did you tell the doctor that you had herps before or after he told you where the salmonella came from?

I have no scientific name, but I could call back the hospital were the tests were done and figure out what it was. I haven't had any new reptiles besides the Leopard Gecko purchased in April and the two Beardies purchased in December of 08.

Nice hobby by the way. Anyway, I did handle the Water Dragon before I was sick (Had to help him remove daed skin from his bottom that wouldn't come off) which could be the one of the reasons. I told the Dr. that I had herps before I was told where the Salmonella came from.

Humm I was thinking the same about the water dragon but still the chance is really small:confused: As for the Dr you shouldnt surprise yourself, when you saiy you have reptiles any bacteria allways happens to come from there. Please if possible get me the especific Salmonella name, that will be very helpfull
