Well this poor guy was another victim of fate. Someone brought him home, his wife didn't want the fish, so he gave it to the neighbor to go in their 80gl tank. A year later, he's over 2 feet long, and still alive, amazingly enough. I run into the neighbor and they are extremely happy to give him to me. Pixxxx

needless to say, he's quite happy to be able to turn around and not be pestered by 4 Oscars (o yeah, there were 4 Oscars in with him). My last TSN died when he was a bit smaller than this guy, and he was quite shy. This one (I've named him Norbert, just for kicks) is inquisitive and brave, and comes to check out my hands if I put them in his tank, I'm still a little wary of him for some reason, I keep worrying he'll mistake my fingers for food!

WOW, Nice save. Amazing how that gill curl corrected itself when he got in the good, clean water. Good luck with him.

Ken.

Wow man , congrats and the fish world thanks you for the save! Looks like Norbert likes his new home. Is he gonna have tankmates ?

I don't think he had a case of gill curl, but he was quite stressed and breathing heavily in the transport bin, so that picture captured his gills flared out. My whole garage stank from the water I brought him home in though. Poor guy has made it through some rough conditions.

As for tankmates, there is another similarly sized TSN at a pet store not far from me (well, 500km) that has also been offered to me. If they do indeed intend to give that one to me, he will be a tankmate. I also have a 22" silver arowana I want to temporarily house in the tub I'm using right now while I set up my 600gl tank where these guys will be housed permanently.

Great job,its always nice to get a fish away from poor housing and watch it thrive.

Well done. Now if you can get your neighbor to get rid of at least 2 of the oscars....

AWESOME job man you made a good save there, its amazing that he survived living in an 80g for 2years! especially with 4 Os:jaw: no wonder that water smelled horrible would have had to do 50% waterchange 3x a day to keep that water SOMEWHAT clean, you can totally see his relief even when put in that tank cant wait to see pics of him going into the 600g

He looks great. He must be so happy to have some room! I noticed you we're saying he's really bold and you were worried about possibly getting bit. My big catfish hand feed, and their feeding method is basically like turning on a big vacuum. Foods just literally sucked down the hatch. They've never ripped food away, but I also don't hold onto hard. I'm sure you could train this guy to gently hand feed.
