Hi, Went fishing with dad, and in the middle of a busy road, was a baby painted turtle. I ran out of the car and scooped him up so he wouldn't end up like the other roadkill turtles. I obviosly can't return him to roadside ditches, because turtles are always run over there. I am quite fond of him already, and the little turt is very colorful. I kept red eareds when i was little. I now how to care for the captives. I just need to now a little about wenning him and such
In my Ten Gallon is a snapping turtle that is a little larger then him, and more girthy. I had a science teavcer that kept a snapper, a soft shell turtle, and a painted in the same tank. it had a heavy layer of sand in it. the soft shell turtle and the snapper would useually bury themselves in it and hunt like that, and the painted would live at the top.
I now have to alter my set up, so it has a nice patch of land, because the little panted turtle is semi-aquatic. should i give them sanbd to play under
in short can they live together peacfully?

Doubtful. ESPECIALLY if it's an alli snapper.

If the snapper doesn't kill it, he'd probibly bite off a leg or something.:(

especially since its in a 10....ur going to need a muhc much bigger tank.

You should release him across the road near water where you found it. Rescueing would be taking him out of harms way and replacing him in the wild.

Being placed in a 10 gallon tank with a snapper is not really a better situation.

Just because someone does a setup a certain way, it doesn't make it right. I have seen people put their big boas in enclosures that is only 10% or 20% of their total length. Does it make it make it right? No.

Anyway, go find a wildlife-filled pond away from the infrastructures and place him there. I am not sure about your state, since Painted Turtles are protected in lot of the states and provinces.

I don't think he'll return it, seeing as he didn't with the advice about the snapper. If your going to keep it get a seperate tank mate :)
Oh btw - A snapper and a soft shell turtle has to be THE worst match I'v ever heard of. Hint. Snapper + Soft shell

don't put them together...snapper ( worse than an alli, even ) will hurt it.

Jessica, please. You are learned, you know how to convey your ideas. I've been reading your posts for quite some times, and usually agree with you.

But please, stop being so pompous with the younger guys..stop being so critical. You'll be more listened to, believe me.:)

I wasn't being critical Miguel, not this time. Yeah I have been before, agreed, but I didn't say anything offensive or out of order this time, so if your going to wait to say something like this to me in response to my more critical earlier posts, feel free to do so, when I am actually being critical ok? I was perfectly fine in this post, even putting a smilie so as to show I werne't (because I have been accused of being to fired up in the past). I gave him advice like he asked, without ANY fire. The comment about the snapper and softshell was also, without fire. And the age thing? I'm probably not much older myself love, how old is he?
:)

Just stick him in a kiddie pool. Use a cinderblock as a basking area and put it outside. Works, and cost less than even a 20 gallon tank. (you can get 127 gal kidde pools for $10.
