No.
Like everybody has said, you need to keep them apart, because sooner or later (whatever size of tank) your painted is going to get injured/killed. Please listen to us mate :(
At least get some sort of tank/enclosure for your painted, then get the pond sorted for your snapper. The painted then can go in the 10 gallon, and you can begin sorting out a larger tank for it. I would definately stop with the 'rescues' if you can't do this for your turtles. Release the animals you end up finding elsewhere :)

i can separate them. painted in the ten for now. snapper in the 45, until i can get a little pool. I know. The next smapper i see i will leave, i have always loved painted turtles, but 1 is enough. But I have to say, if i see a fly river or softshell turtle running around, i am taking it! LOL
This turtle has alot of energy! I it will run arounfd in my hands and everything! It will swim in the thetank, and think it can go deeper, because there is no surstrate, and be tilted downward, touching the glass, and just keeping on trying to swim through the glass.

Thats good that you seperated them :)
Only take other animals if you have enough to keep it happy. Softshells can definately not be kept with other turtles lol.

Hatchling size yes. There are so many problems with these. If they ever decide to take a chunk out of eachother the problem is the soft shell.. lol. Don't see the point in being a soft shell myself. Its like something between a turtle and an octopus LOL. I was going to get a few but when I realised you couldnt keep them together I decided against it.

I love the odd way they look. An update on the painted turlte. He is eating freeze dried krill! I have not been given an opurtunity to seperate them. My situation right now is a 55 that needs drained, that i can not get to because of my lazy brother, and a 45 with fish in it that will all get to the 55 asap. When i set up my 55, my 45 will be free for a turtle.
It is is quite interesting to watch how they differ. The snapper is a rock in the corner that doesn't move until feeding time, and the painted has lots of energy, and zoomes from one end to the other. the snapping turtle quicky attacks its food and eats it in one bite, and the painted turtle studies the food at first, touches it, and eats it when it knows it is safe. He ate a big shrimp today. He would eat he slowly ate it whole, like a snake. i like my painted better.
