Geophagus winemilleri have an opercular mark.

Geophagus parnaibae are a much different fish, mostly blue and green and comparatively unattractive. You can read the original description and view images of the Holotype and a Paratype here...

Thanks Ed! I hope I had made up my mind earlier and rescued the female too...

It looks somewhat different from the other fish that you though was G. abalios (pic below; a lot more yellow) - are they just different variants?
