Reseal? (PICS)

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
does it hold water?

Yes, but i am gonna stock it with some shell-dwellers and I want it to last alot longer than it looks that it will. I picked it up from an auction and I think it was pretty old.

IMO if it doesnt leak i wouldnt try to reseal it myself for fear of messing the tank up worse if it holds water.. if you really want to go to your lfs and see if they can help or do it. thats just me though.

I would not bother resealing it if it does not leak.

If you do decide to reseal, a normal tube of fast drying caulk would work fine. You just have to make sure it sits for a couple of days in the sun to make sure its non-toxic when you add fish. (Basically make sure its Cured). Also wouldnt hurt to run water in it for a week afterwards, just to make sure.

What i did with my old tank was took a box cutter, carefully removed the old caulking, got the gun, and caulked along the edges. Then, wearing a plastic glove, i gently ran my finger along the caulk to smooth it out and make sure it is in place. It may be a little difficult at first, but gets better as you go. If done right, it goes pretty quickly and will hold water fo a loooong time after.

Resealing a tank is pretty easy if you decide to do it. Its all about peace of mind. How comfortable are you with it? Usually I am over cautious on things like this.

Its your call. You are the one doing the work....either the resealing or cleaning up the leaking mess.

Well already started to take off the old seal. I think I will be able to do it. I am using 100% clear rubber silicone.
