Thank you for your replies. Yes, this does help, but I am really concerned with these spots. Any ideas on their removal.

Thanks
Joe
No, actually I really like black. I set up my 110 with a black background and black 3M color quartz substrate and I think it looks beautiful. The 55 I'm working now has a painted black background, black colorquartz and soon to be black silicone. Oh yeah, I'm black too.

Seriously though, I really thought it would be cool.
Funny you mention acetone, I just came from hardware store with some. After the paint on the tank dries (oh yeah, I painted the frame black too!) I will try it out.
Thanks............rick

I spent all my spare time after work for a week on a $50 used 55gal tank doing all the prep work. Took my time and did it right. Painted the back of the tank black the bottom and the trim. Brought it inside and meticulously removed all of the silicone and then cleaned the glass with acetone. Looked beautiful.
I probably made every mistake possible from this point on. First mistake, get some help, I live alone and try to get by on my own, big mistake, get another pair of hands to help. Second mistake, listen to the directions, they said to lay a bead about 1/4 inch, I figure I'll make mine a little better so I layed a thicker bead. I taped it up like they said but after smoothing it out and removing the tape I realized that because the bead was so thick that the edges did not taper down good, insead it left a thick wall of silicone at the edges.
And oh yeah I almost forgot.........................wear GLOVES!!!!!!!!!!!
I will now more than likely have to start all over again and for what. Oh yeah thats right, so that I could save 29.99 plus tax, the cost of a brand new tank. But keep in mind now, the used tank had scratches, turns out it was made in like 1990 something or other (tag still on bottom) and there was never a guarantee that the reseal would work. All this for 30 bucks.
Oh yeah, not even $30 bucks cause I spent $18 on silicone and $5 on paint! Wow.........good job.
