Thank you for your replies. Yes, this does help, but I am really concerned with these spots. Any ideas on their removal.

I'n not sure what those are, but if you can't get them off with a new blade and rubbing alcohol, maybe try some asitone I'm not sure if it's any better. Why are you using black silicone? Just wanted to know.

Thanks
Joe

To be different. :grinno:No, actually I really like black. I set up my 110 with a black background and black 3M color quartz substrate and I think it looks beautiful. The 55 I'm working now has a painted black background, black colorquartz and soon to be black silicone. Oh yeah, I'm black too. :flamed:

Seriously though, I really thought it would be cool.

Funny you mention acetone, I just came from hardware store with some. After the paint on the tank dries (oh yeah, I painted the frame black too!:grinno:) I will try it out.

Thanks............rick

yeah right on bro!!!

Well thats it! I'm done trying to reseal tanks! One try, total mess, and thats it! :irked::irked::irked: I spent all my spare time after work for a week on a $50 used 55gal tank doing all the prep work. Took my time and did it right. Painted the back of the tank black the bottom and the trim. Brought it inside and meticulously removed all of the silicone and then cleaned the glass with acetone. Looked beautiful.

Today was the day I would apply the silicone, what a mess.:irked::swear: I probably made every mistake possible from this point on. First mistake, get some help, I live alone and try to get by on my own, big mistake, get another pair of hands to help. Second mistake, listen to the directions, they said to lay a bead about 1/4 inch, I figure I'll make mine a little better so I layed a thicker bead. I taped it up like they said but after smoothing it out and removing the tape I realized that because the bead was so thick that the edges did not taper down good, insead it left a thick wall of silicone at the edges.

Next big mistake, dont go back and try and smooth the silicone after it has sat for more then like 8 minutes!!!!!!!!! And oh yeah I almost forgot.........................wear GLOVES!!!!!!!!!!!

So now I have a tank that I have been working on for a week sitting on my kitchen floor no closer to being used then it was when I first brought it home.:shakehead I will now more than likely have to start all over again and for what. Oh yeah thats right, so that I could save 29.99 plus tax, the cost of a brand new tank. But keep in mind now, the used tank had scratches, turns out it was made in like 1990 something or other (tag still on bottom) and there was never a guarantee that the reseal would work. All this for 30 bucks. :screwy: Oh yeah, not even $30 bucks cause I spent $18 on silicone and $5 on paint! Wow.........good job. :clap

If it sounds like I am a little P'd off, well thats cause I am. Sorry for the rant, but like I said, I live alone and I needed to vent.

The only way I will ever go through this again is if someone either sells a tank at such a rediculously low price or justs gives it to me. Cause right now I am going straight to Petco to buy a brand new 55gal for $79.99. But oh yeah I almost forgot, its going to cost me a little more than that isnt it? $50 for the used tank, about $18 for the silicone and a few bucks for the paint. Lets just even it out at $150, plus a weeks worth of work, for a lousy 55gal tank!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am the MAN!:headbang2
