Resist Impulse Buying!!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Yes Delgado is correct they are the Payaras that grow to 12". The Armatus species gets huge. The red tails get to 2 feet. 4 dollars each is definetly a mistake if you can get them for 4 get them all man great deal 65 each at my lfs! The only hang up is they will only eat live food guppies and feeder fish, hard to get them off live food.

Ok, I'll go pick them up today if they are still there. They did have a hump on their head, kinda like the head sloped down from the body. Any ideas why as none of the pics I've seen has it.

And if for some reason they don't have them I'm going to change this thread to "Be sure to impulse buy". I'm going to call and get them to hold them for me when they open.

I almost did that today. The LFS had a 3 inch gator gar and a really wanted it. It would be fine for about 3 months and then it would outgrow my 75.

That sucks that you didn't get them, but in a way it was a good move on your part. They can be difficult to care for, need lots of current and circulation in the tank, as well as lots of oxygen. Top that off with the need for live foods and that they normally don't live past 12" in the home aquarium...its a best that you didn't spend your money on them. However, that sounds like a killer LFS if they sell those rare fish for so cheap!

I once impulsed bought a RTC for $1.63...the guy at Petsmart thought it was an Anues Cory  He also told me that it'll get as big as a Common Pleco at 6"

a little warning for future impulse buys,
DO NOT use any fish you wish to keep as a dither fish in a tank containing a marbled goby (Oxyleotris marmorata)! While these fish don't move much, they do move sudden, and eat a lot. I have seen a 10" one eat several 5-6" bluegills at a feeding, it also ate an 8" LMB. They are not to be trusted with even very fast fish such as payara, if they can catch balas ( and they can), they can also catch payara.

impulse buying is okay when you have 7 different types of tank setups with multple of each... or grow out alittle and sell to another LFS for store credit for food or supplies... I made 14 dollars today on a tinfoil barb and red tail shark...
