Responsible Fish Keeper?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Personally I would have to go to work and hope the animal is ok. I don't have any one that would know what to do if something were to go bad. Hell I don't have anyone that could even feed my fish right let alone look after a sick one.

So Me personally It's #1 I have to work. but if I could manage #2 I would.

depends how much you love the fish and what you are willing to do for it.

personally i don't see how hovering over a sick fish is going to do it any good. once it's medicated, moved to quarantine, or what ever else needs done, there is not much more you can do, so i would go to work.

The question is where to find this "backup person"... I understand having a person to check on your fish while you on vacation... (this person probably check on the fish after work) but during non vacation days?

the idea is nice... but realistically it wont happen... no work --> no hobby. which is why we see parent sent their sick children to school... or go to work when your sick.... no work --> no money...

skipping work for a couple hours doesnt mean no work
and no wonder i see half my school gone because someone is not being responsible with not only fish but their own child!

If you have a species that is so rare that it is almost extinct, it would be pretty irresponsible in the beginning to have that as a "pet". To answer the question, I'll go with #2.

irresponsible would be the ones that caught them from the river recklessly without thinking of the consequences. but that is too late now, the fish r already in the trade instead of in the river, the responsibility lies in the current fish owner. * consider it as a rescue, would you think of the rescuer as being irresponsible? *

My horse got kicked in the chest and went dead lame in his right front leg compleately.. Yes the Vet was on his way, and the barn owner was in attendance. But it was my horse, my responsability.. I got the call at work.. 1 hour into my shift. I told my manager I had an emergency and had to leave. She told me I couldn't. I walked out.. You can find a new job. Money is replaceable/re-makeable. A life is not. If the life is worth it.. You can't place a monitary value on it. 11 years later he's now sound. because I was there, I saw how he was. and I made the choice to try and treat the injury instead of put him down (yes it was that bad an injury). I don't even remember the managers name to the job I walked out on.

we are not talking about the "RARE" factor...

rare does play a factor in this, lets say china has the last pair of panda on the world, all eyes would be on china, and what if china said , "we dont have time to deal with pandas right now, now where were we, ahh, law number 123..."

for example, fish could be revived by holding it over a powerhead... its been done... and thats not the only rescue thing there is to do....

good safe  now thats what i call responsible :)

I'm not sure if I understand the question but I don't believe keeping fish is a "hobby" really and it doesn't matter if the fish is rare or not, you do your best to save it either way. If that means skipping school/work, sure why not. Especially school, you can't get fired from school. You can just say you were sick.

2...
though if it were me i wouldve just skipped out of school or got a day's leave off work.
i dont even trust others with my fish...
