Well, it depends...
In gradeschool, I would have risked being late to correct the problem, as long as it would not take too long. Now, in high school, i have to catch a bus, so it would not be practical.

I'd really like to know what this "super rare fish only being kept alive by the hobby" is.

One very common example is the red tailed black shark. They are very common in the aquarium trade and are raised in mass on fish farms but wild populations are gone. I'd imagine there are many others, it's more common than most people think and it's not only fish.

His post makes it seem like he's keeping something a little more rare than that redtail shark. It seems like he has the last dodo bird.

I'm guessing he has an Asian Arowana, and is trying to figure out a way through our decisions what to do....My answer neither 1 or 2 if you aren't trying to instigate breeding or are unable to care for a "rare" animal if something goes ary than never get it in the first place

rare does play a factor in this, lets say china has the last pair of panda on the world, all eyes would be on china, and what if china said , "we dont have time to deal with pandas right now, now where were we, ahh, law number 123..."

rare does no play part of this... we are talking in general because "rare" is nitch in this hobby....

are you saying you wont care if your mono died... but will care for azul?

Certainly not a good way to kick off the week. The tank seems fine right now. The Silicone is still curing with the clamps in place so my light has been off for the past day or so. Same with a powerhead or two. My anemone swapped to the other side of his mountain, he lived on a caveish opening in the rock work and the clowns had a front and back door so to speak, he relocated to the back door. I'm hoping I can get everything back to normal tomorrow.

nope not azn aros... not redtail shark either .... i'm talking bout fish that no fish farm have succeeded in mass breeding yet... wats kept alive by hobbyist rite now r the only ones ever gonna be left , unless someone can invest enough to start a breeding program, which is gonna be a lot of work n money ( setup cost, perhaps lab equipment , tanks , growouts) ... if anyone would start that, i would support it as much as i can , as in sponsoring them with my own fish perhaps...

but right now thats not happening, so being a owner of one of such fish, wouldnt u think owner 2 is better than owner 1 ?

rareness does, more or less, affect how much u value something ( ideally, every living thing should be equal... but in reality, sadly, value does have an effect ) .... not saying you shouldnt care for ur mono if its sick, because its the responsibility of a fish keeper to keep it alive.

put it in a different situation. perhaps u drive a corolla to work on weekdays while on the weekends u bring out ur ferrari. r u gonna not drive it as carefully and let it get all scratched up ? no... but wat im saying is, it does, more or less, affect your caringness level. and even if its not rare, you have the responsibility to at least have basic backup. and if its rare, then the responsibility increase beyond basic

so wat i was asking is, isnt it more responsible to have at least basic backup ( even if it is for a mono) ? and if its anything rarer, wouldn't that responsibility be definitely a must ( which 1 doesnt show)

lets put it this way... who will take off from work because your pet feeder goldfish is not doing well... or who will get pay someone to get there to check it out....

what i said before depends on how much the fish means to you and how much you love it
