Restoring my 600 gal Acrylic Tank

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Thanks for the feedback. I will be getting to buffing kit and start that process. Also forgot to add this picture......
What do you'll think about this? It's the top brace of the tank.View attachment 1396002
Wow, you might consider only filling it half way and making a riparium out of it

mrrobxc mrrobxc is a good resource for that

If that’s a crack I see than you’ll have to reinforce if you want to use the tank with some peace of mind. Doesn’t look good. Can you take a closer shot of the crack to give some detail on how big it is? Please tag me so I can see the post since I’m in sporadically.

Ok will do tomorrow

Yeah its cracked on both sides of the brace. You will need to drill a hole at the end of the crack. When I say end actually start the top edge of the hole at the end of the crack so the bottom edge is into uncracked acrylic. This will end the crack. If you do not do this that crack will continue until it finds a spot to terminate at. Any pressure on the crack will cause it to grow. Once drilled you will need Weldon and some pieces of acrylic to brace and fortify the damaged area. I like the thicker Weldon for repairs like this as you can try and fill the crack with it before putting the acrylic over the crack.
Good luck. Its not an impossible fix but you can not leave it even filling half way. Acrylic tanks are not single pieces of glass like a glass tank, once the pieces are put together it's a single unit. Any pressure anywhere will still be "felt" at that crack.

Jk47 fixed a similar crack by sandwiching two pieces of acrylic around the crack.

Agreed. Great tips here. Good luck fixing the tank.

Lepisosteus Lepisosteus would those cracks need to be fixed, or is that even fixable?

I wouldn’t be filling the tank without doing something. Looks like the crack bleeds down into the front/side panel. Tough repair in my opinion

What do you guys think if I were to have the tank cut down all the way around right pass the crack since it bleeds down to the side wall of the aquarium, about 2.5-3 inches? Then replace with a new top.
