It finally happened, I lost my retic. I am just very confused why she passed away. My two male motoros are doing just fine, breathing fine and eating. My retic was breathing rather heavy today so I made sure to pump the airstones and powerheads on full blast all day and she flopped on me. Well, she actually didn't go belly up this time. Last time she went belly up I saved her and she was better than ever swimming midline across the tank, eating great and getting along with my motoros finally.

Just very confused as to why she passed and my motoros seem just fine. Going to keep a close eye on them though don't want to loose anymore, one if enough.

My parameters are the following at the moment...

pH - 7.8
ammonia - .5ish
nitrite - 0
nitrate - 10

a little bit of ammonia but nothing crazy. Any help or input as to why I lost her is much appreciated, I want to learn from this.

sometimes stress that a ray goes threw can kill it even weeks later. the ray will seem fine an then just die. this is one hard part about import. but from what i read in a few fresh water ray books, if a ray gets stressed enuff the stress can actualy kill the ray but it can take sometime. you said the last time she went belly up u saved her. how long ago did she go belly up an what was the cause? id still do a water change an keep the bubble going just in case for the others. sorry for ur loss. this happens sometimes.

water change tomorrow, I do 25% water changes every Sunday.
gonna keep the airstones/powerheads on all night.

she went belly up about 2 months ago...

Could have very easily been the ammonia. It may have been higher than that before you tested it as well

You should try to figure out why it is there ASAP

what filters are on the tank?
Size of tank?
How much Bio media do you have running?
Is there anywhere food could be rotting?
Is there anything that could be hurting your BB like chlorine or chloramine in your water supply?

0 ammonia should be in an established tank

I am very sorry to hear that you lost her and I hope you can get things straightened out.

Sorry if we have went over some of this before I have a bad memory :(

any other fish in the tank? i had a lims shovel nose with my rays at one time. they all seemed to be doin great eating acted normal. till one day i got up early happened to be watchin the tank with the night light on and saw the lima chasing one of my rays. needless to say it found a new home the next day. sorry for your loss.

sorry to hear that. Hate to see suck a fine looking ray pass on.
I would of loved to have had her in my tanks...
Do a 30% water change. Keep an eye out on the others. It may have been the ammonia also. So a water change will help.
How long has our tank been set up again, I forget? Also, what are you using to filter the tank?
I know last time it was a air problem. Or at least what we think the reason was. Do the water change. Sorry again for the loss..

low levels of ammonia that are constant are just as dangerous as high level ammonia. especially with a high ph. higher ph makes your ammonia more toxic to your fish. you should start doing a water change midweek 25% is not enough. any time you have any ammonia in the tank do a water change dont wait!
especially if you have one die one you. that should tell you something is wrong! i would say sorry for the loss but if you dont learn from the mistake i dont feel sorry for you, i feel sorry for your current rays.

U got a 125g with 3 rays, I say do more wc than just 25% every Sunday ...sorry for your loss!

It can be ammonia... look on this table: http://www.dataguru.org/misc/aquarium/AmmoniaTox.html

In my opinion you have not enough bio filtration. If your NO3 and NO2 is OK, and ammonia is more than 0 that mean your bio filtration is not enough or you feeding your fish to much.

When did you clean your filter media and what kind of filtration do you have ?
