Retic kills owner

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
I think DDE pretty much hit the nail on the head with his words. We can all see with our own eyes, and with his retics, that he knows what he's doing and that they aren't out to kill everything. Ever thought about teaching seminars?

Very well put dde. As bad as it sounds, it really is the fault of the woman and not the snake. The snake isn't some murderous monster, it's just a big python and that's what they do. If you can't handle them...DON'T, or something like this will happen. If this whole thing ends in the death of the snake, I'll be pretty pissed. As I already said, I feel very sorry for the woman, husband, and the rest of the family, but the snake better not be punished for following it's instincts. Even with as many generations as some pythons have been bred in captivity, they still aren't domesticated animals.

Awesome retic btw

an even more disturbing story that I read was a snake that had gotten out of his enclosue and killed a two or three year old while he slept.
:(

Very sad indeed. I guess I feel a little different then the rest of you about the keeping of large boids, I feel as though either tougher restrictions OR permits should be made a mandatory part of keeping these animals.
These things would happen way less if a possible owner had to go through some red tape and maybe even a class as well as an evauluation to see whether or not the animal should even be allowed in thier home. Too many of these animals are bought by "impulse" buyers that really have no idea what they are getting into.

I have been keeping/breeding large boids for well over 20 years, and I for one would have NO problem doing what was needed to aquire the proper permits, if it would make something like this incident less likely to happen.

DDE, you have great looking snakes but I wonder what will come of them when they hit the 25' mark and weigh in over 200lbs? Of all of the people I know with retics and burms I know of only ONE that is TRULY capable of caring for them as adults, and he had to bring his collection down to just one animal because of the space needed for an adult specimen.

Just my $0.02

I guess I missed that beginning part as the article ended with:

"Right now Animal Control Officers have custody of the snake, but they say they are not sure yet what they are going to do with it.

"The husband wants nothing to do with the snake, obviously," said Officer Humphrey. So for now, Animal Control Officers say they are keeping the python fed and happy with live rats."

Is this story even true? Just wondering because of the inconsistancies throughout the story. A lot of things look out of place with it... maybe just the poorest of poor journalism.
