He's been a little calmer today. I was cleaning up some food (this guy is a messy eater, he had food everywhere! Although he is eating a lot, which makes me happy), and replaced his swimming pool water, and he never batted an eye.
Since he was being so calm, I decided to test my limits, and reached down to pet him. He let me! He let me stroke his back, and then when I reached a finger to pet the top of his head, he closed his eyes and arched his head up

.
I have to say, this guys head is so prehistoric looking and feeling. Especially the 3 bumps that give them their name. I can't wait until he gets bigger!
I also got a good measurement on him today. Looks like he's right at 16" Total length, about 6-6.5" SVL. I still need to get my kitchen scale out to see what he weighs (I'm sure that will be exciting).
Anyways, I decided to build his new light box today. I took some 1/2" plywood scrap I had laying around and built a box. I put two ceramic bulb sockets into the box, and wired them up to a dual pole switch. This way i can turn each one on and off independently of the other. I also lined the inside of the box with aluminum flashing, so that it will reflect most of the light and heat out the front into the terrarium. And if I ever do stand the terrarium back up, I can rest this on top and it will still work just as well.
Currently I just have two 60w irridescent bulbs in there. My heat bulb died while I was building the box

, and my UVB bulb is in the mail. I'm thinking I may pick up a ceramic heat element instead of a halogen bulb this time, so that I can leave it on 24 hours a day. Then I'll just turn the UVB bulb on and off to simulate daytime hours.
A possible future modification will be adding a timer to the UVB bulb socket, so that I don't have to physically turn the light on and off, it will automatically turn on and off.
Wow, that was a really long post. Sorry, here's the pics, let me know what you think:
