I am saving for a ridgeback puppy and even though its a few months away, I am still freaking out about a lot of things regarding their care. I have done hours and hours of research and have gotten so many mixed answers that I am confused. Some say that its bad to feed them peas, some say its really good. Some say rice is bad but rice is in all of the dog foods, even the super expensive ones that are recommended! Raw diets seem to be great but I would like it to eat a good quality kibble as well. maybe mix and match. but at the same time because the kibble digests faster than meat so it can cause gastrointestinal issues and digestion issues. I currently plan on buying the Blue buffalo brand food, and sometimes feeding raw eggs (with shell), maybe occasionally put plain yogurt in the kibble, and on occasion raw meat and bones. (cooked bones are bad because they splinter and can hurt the dog). any suggestions or objections?

I would say blue buffalo would be you're best bet. But then again a raw diet would be good aswell since they are a large dog.

Blue is awesome, my sister has raised her golden retriever x border collie on it and its in great health!

Also the name escapes me but that food that's in its own freezer is awesome too haha

Honestly, big dogs will and can eat almost anything, sounds to me like you're worrying a bit too much.

My big Boxer Wolfhound X gets kibble as a base and then raw beef bones/leftovers/chicken drumsticks.

My girlfriends dog will only eat rice, he's pretty healthy digestive wise as well.

I am a big fan of Taste of the Wild brand. I've raised my 3yr old lab boxer mix on it and my parents use it for their 3 dogs as well. You really can't go wrong with Taste of the wild or Blue Buffalo or any food that isn't filled with fillers. Comes down to personal preference IMHO.

With my dog we even only feed her treats from those companies or ones ones that have no fillers. Personally I wouldn't eat something full of fillers so I don want my dog to either.

Rae marrow bones from the butcher make amazing treats as well. An after they get the marrow and stuff out I fill with peanut butter as a treat!

Good luck with your pup! Ridgebacks are amazing! Well all dogs are great! I'm in the process if getting another myself!

I fed my RR/Boxer mix Canidae canned and dry.
just had her euthanized due to nothing but old age last week, and she was just short of 15 1/2 yrs old. followed me around the house even on the day she died. It almost killed me having her put down.

She was the size of an RR, I think 12 yrs is old for that breed. many die before that.
Boxers are relatively short-lived dogs.
The age was a record for my Vet. she didn't know a boxer over 10 yrs old.

Good luck finding an example that beats that age for a large dog.
I don't know if Canidae is The Best in the whole world, but I do know my dog was.
You should go by what experienced breeders recommend.
