Here are more pics to get an idea how I put it together and what it does. It is made out of plastic peg board that I got from Lowes (Milkman discovered it). I cut it to fit and screwed it together using stainless screws. I also put a piece of eggcrate in the bottom for better water distribution. The smooth side is turned down intentionally. The ridged side works with the eggcrate to allow the water to flow from one cell to another.

btw, the quilt batting is the only thing that I am using for mechanical filtration.

One more thing...Have a look at the design of the drip tray again and notice the short side is toward the front where the pump is. Now look at the tank construction again. If the filter media gets too dirty and overflows, it will overflow into the pump chamber instead of going all over the place. You should design yours similar.
