In the caiman den
Anyone keeping them?? Was gifted a little guy from my brother. He had him on salamanders, im hoping to get him on something else. 4 are in his tanks now and he regurgitated one few days ago. It had been a week and a half since it ate so we figured itd be safe to move. We were wrong but he seems ok.

His tank before I built it. I dont have one post on hand

Sorry kinda blurry. Getting pics of a 5" snake is kinda hard.

I love these - and have tried to keep them, but never could get them to eat anything. I was trying worms, slugs, and tadpoles - but let them go before they got too thin.

Does it get pretty cold where you are? Its gettin pretty chilly here in Cali and I know this is the time of year when they start to hibernate. They tend to stop eating when they're gettin ready to do so.

Found one in my basement the other week...the way my GF was screaming you'd think it was a 6 foot Black Rat Snake.

I never kept this species but you can try to switch it over to a diet of earthworms like mentioned.

Read: Even earthworms were not accepted. I have NEVER gotten one to eat ANYTHING.

If you do - let us know - they are great and friendly snakes.

I'm gonna go by my original statement that it's getting ready to hibernate. He did say that it was eating salamanders when he first got it and now it's not. Since it's getting a lot colder now, these snakes do start to hibernate at this time, so this is what I think is happening.

Iv always wanted one of these guys because of the tiny size. Iv only had the guy a few days. Im gonna be trying for earth worms. I have a few isopods in with him atm, and a few earthworms. Its a very basic forest floor viv.

Im guessing he will eat soon enough. My brother had him for months and he was eatting great so Im not that concerned about it.

Fw, did you ever try salamanders? The guy has def ate some of them. Way larger than I thought he could.
As far as brumation is concerned, I a) dunno how to do such a thing and b) I think he is too young. He is maybe 5 in.

Seth, lucky!! Iv never found one.

It's actually quite easy if that's what it's preparing for. With the kingsnake I had, once he stopped feeding I placed his cage in the coldest room in the house and just left him, checking on him periodically. It usually isn't recommended to do it when its so small but they do in nature and if its already starting to prepare, might as well go through with it but while you're checking in him, if you notice he ain't doin so well, start raising the heat gradually and try feeding him again.
