Rio Mag growouts

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
IMO going on the picture its still unsexable. Think you're going to have to wait untill they start showing off to one another, and showing a bit more colour.

That's what I'm thinking as well. I switch almost daily as to what I think the biggest one will end up being, so it's not super obvious at this size (not to me at least). I'll just be patient and wait another few months and hope that it becomes apparent, without mass casualties happening before then. Luckily, there's been little to no damage between the group so far. Hoping that continues for as long as I have the group together.

Thanks! Yep, I went out and picked up a group of 10 from Justin. Looking at your group's size, this may even be from the same batch as yours are. How are yours doing, and what's your size range at this point?

Mine range from 1" to 4", I picked them up on 6/18/17 the biggest may have been 3/4".
Their growth rate is all over the charts, 4 of them are +/- 4" a few of them are +/- 3" and the rest are all 2", I'm like you just waiting on a sure fired male and I'll move out the rest. All the bigger ones are in a 125 and the smaller ones I'm moving into a 75, during water changes I try to get the smaller one's out of the 125 they're starting to get picked on pretty bad.

That sounds pretty close to my group. Largest is right around 4-4.25" and the runt of the group is maybe 2", possibly even 1.75". The only one getting beat up right now is the runt, and that's not even really bad. Just some torn fins once in a while, no real damage yet. I keep the temps at 77-78, so that might be helping tame some aggression.

Very nice! I'm thinking about switching out my PFS in their tank.
Thanks! I'd recommend it after seeing the difference in color. It's not life changing or anything, but they look a lot nicer on a natural gravel color than they did on the light colored sand. More color is definitely showing in the new surroundings.

Here's the latest on my group. I originally started out with 10, now down to 6. I lost 4 in a 2 week span due to insane aggression out of nowhere. All losses were overnight, so I never saw what happened or which one caused it. That was probably 3 months ago, and I haven't had a single issue since then. Very odd, but I'm glad they've settled down since.

Anyways, here's the largest of the group. I'm still not 100% sure on sex, but I feel like most signs point to male - extended trailers, irridescent blue scales all over, head shape, etc. I don't see any black on the fins either. Any guesses? This particular fish is in the 7" range. Really hoping this one is the keeper, it's got massive freckling and is very active and aggressive so far.
