Rio Magdalena VS. Gorillus Blue

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They are beautiful specimens just they way they are why mess with that umbeefan? Would it be OK to breed a green Istlanum with red? Or Costa Rican Dovii with nicaraguan?

Very curious as to what that mix would look like. Both are still caquatia umbrieferus species so technically its not a hybrid like say jag X dovii for example.

I'm probably not the only one who has that curiosity , but if I am then I apologize.

I do agree they are both beautiful specimans but the blue umbee is still my #1 favorite.

They might be the same species now, but I doubt they will stay that way once a scientist takes the time to look at them. Still best not to mix them given the way the trend to divide up species at the moment.

But for Doviis and Istlies they look the same but the colors.. These Umbees aren't the same like that. They're looks are distinctly different in many ways. And a cross between them would be interesting.
It is one's hobby and it's for whatever keeps it interesting for them. I'd rather keep them solid as they are but a cross between them would bring another interesting fish. As long as records are kept.

I was gonna post this on the gorillus thread but figured it would be more appropriate on its own. So here we go, Rumble in the Jungle!!!! Rio Mag (General Line) Vs. Gorillus Blue (Gorillus Prime)
They are both pushin 6" eyeballing. Here are some pics of them face to face and 1 on 1. Lil history on them, The Rio Mag is my last growout from the General which is for sale. But for now hes divided with Gorillus Prime to try and get eachother pumped up!! Gorillus Prime is an offspring from Umbeekings Legendary Wild Gorillus Blue pair, which he caught Himself! I recieved this guy in May at around 3/4" I am definitely impressed with how the Gorillus are turning out. Prime is gaining tons of blue and red in his face!! I cant tell wether its blue on red or red on blue LOL So here we go a comparison of the brand new Gorillus to the always loved Rio magdalena. Here you can easily distinguish the gorillus from the rio mag:/ This isnt a contest of which umbee looks better but merely a side by side comparison. Ill always Love the Blue umbee but im also curious on working with the Gorillus to see what comes of them. And speaking of blues... The MagnumX's are now available in very limited quantity which i bred myself with a wild Location X male ( Xtreme) to a beautiful female Rio Mag from the (General) These lil Umbees are fricken phenominal Blue umbees and im only selling the general male in the pics to make room for my new MagnumX's which i will take the nicest male from my group and breed with a nice female from WorldBelows group!!! Anyway's enough about that, Time for the pics;)
I've never seen young Umbees look so good.
I don't like Black Umbees but it looks good here. Really good.
I still like Blue Umbees more. The Black Umbees are like a whole new kind of umbee to the hobby though. PPL are just wanting them it seems. U got a nice one..

Oh and in this match up, the gorillus wins

Forsure a cross would be interesting to see and of course it is preference for what people think is OK in this hobby. I personally feel that housing a fish that has evolved naturally in the wild, has a satisfaction that can not be matched by a house hold experiment . My opinion.

For sure. I understand that. But that one fish will stay solid and ain't nothing gonna change it.. But that's in one tank, and in another tank some of us like to play with our hobby keep us interested and to satisfy our curiosity. I understand your view. Hope u understand mine :)

Wow...what ever your doing with these guys, your on target. I'm planning to purchase some juvenile Rio Mags very soon. Do you recommend anyone to purchase from to obtain some F1-F2 at least 2"? Looking to start with about 6 hopefully to obtain a pair. Appreciate any advice you could offer. Thanks.

Thank you very much:) and actually my friend Sean has the male rio mag in this thread and spawning it. His name is house64. His fry are around .5-1" I believe but definitely worth it. I'm not sure if cichlidman09 has fry or not either but hit him up. Umbeeking has fantastic magx umbees and overloaded with gorillus!!! Those are the only guys I know of with quality fry I recommend:)
